So here’s the new blog… I finally bit the bullet and bought some hosting space… and man, things have changed in the 9 or so years since I last did this… The prices are insanely low for what you get… and everyone has these beautiful cPanel/Fantastico style auto-installers.

Testing whether this works or not…
Welcome to your new home! I brought, as a blogwarming present, a bottle of finest West Country cider. But I drank it. *Hic*
[If you can read this, then wordpress likes Safari and dislikes Omniweb 5.5]
Hmm. So I guess there’s a problem with OmniWeb and the too-sexy-for-its-own-good AJAX commenting system this theme has…
I should add that I’m colour-blind in several different ways… so expect to see the colours shift around a bit as I actually consult with people :)
“Honey, have you seen my green jumper?”
“What green jumper?”
“You know, the one with the stripes on it…”
“You mean your BROWN jumper?”
“…”
The thing is that OW5.5 is based on a newer WebKit than Safari 2, so if you can read this (which is posted from the latest WebKit nightly) then either WebKit had a regression around the OW5.5 time which has since disappeared, or WordPress is b0rking based on user-agent headers.
It’s probably a User-Agent thing with this ‘k2′ theme that I’m using. I’ll poke around the code today and get it working.
I hate using User-Agents to work out things, I might try and change the test to be a functional one, not a name based one.
So… this is me posting with OmniWeb and setting the user-agent to be identifying as Safari… quick test just to see whether that’s all the problem is.
So it sounds like it is a problem with OmniWeb from browsing their forums. Not sure if it’s the WebKit version they’re using, or some internal problem, but people seem to have AJAX issues all over the place.
